What is a Cedilla (¸)
“Cedilla” and “cedille” both refer to the same diacritical mark (¸) placed underneath the letter “c“. The term “cedille” is commonly used in French, while “C cedilla” is more commonly used in English and other languages.
The cedilla is often confused with the comma, but it is important to note that they are two different symbols. The cedilla is always attached to the bottom of the letter “ç” C with a tail while the comma appears above the baseline of the text.

How to make ç in Word
- Place the cursor where you want to insert the c with cedilla.
- Press and hold the “Ctrl key” and “comma” keys (“,”) simultaneously.
- Release both keys.
- Press the “c” key.
Alternatively, you can use MS Word Symbol-
- Click on the “Insert” tab at the top of the page.
- Click on “Symbol” and select “More Symbols”.
- In the “Subset” drop-down menu, select “Latin-1 Supplement”.
- Select the “ç” character and click “Insert”.
On Mac
- Press and hold the Option key on your keyboard.
- While holding the Option key, press the letter “c”.
- Release both keys at the same time.
C with cedilla Windows character map
Character Map is a built-in Windows application that allows users to view and select various characters and symbols, including the c-cedilla. Here are the steps to use the Character Map to type C-cedilla on Windows:
Open the Start menu and search for “Character Map” or “charmap.exe”.
Click on the Character Map application to open it.
